Analisys of the character

Regardless his few appearence in the story, Camus count a lot of fans and followers. Between the Saint Seiya fans, there are 3 different way of thoughts about his character: selfishness, coldness, master heart. Probably they have source on the particular nature of the character, in fact he has various attituted that splitted the fans in these flows of thoughts.

The three kind of thought have birth cause of the difference between the manga and the anime, in fact in the manga he suggest to Hyoga various time to be more cold and heartless to become strongest possible. But in the anime this advice is given only in the 7th temple because he doesn't appear first. However the same Golden Saint isn't heartless even if it seem in a first check. He feel pain seeing his own pupil that can't forget his past and also to reclose him in the Ice Coffin at the same time he lost his cold attitude in his own temple when he his surprised of his pupil improvements and can't accept them,

However not few fan of the series think that Camus is a narrow and shifty character that lost totally his main role, that it's defend and recognize the justice, to defeat his pupil. For this purpose he let the other Bronz Saints go over his temple and scream on Hyoga accusing him that he is doing wrong because he isn't interested in Arles and what he is doing. Even in the last fight is attitude seem more arrogant then a one of a master. When he threaten Hyoga of not trying to exceed on him, it's like if he lives the battle not like something to make Hyoga grow and improve but as a battle to affirm himself. The final scene, before he dies, where he recognize that he had a meaningless life, makes think of him like a swallow person, to much sure of himself and of his power. However Camus fans thinks that he he is an only apparently hard guy and prefer to remember him as the guy who cried for his pupil and considerate all his presences in the anime as the one of a leathery master that donate his life to make his pupil reach the 7th sense and make him able of use the Aurora Execution.

My hypotesys is that since Camus became Saint at a very young age he acted a bit like a child. You could refear on the fact that he had great duties and power since he was 7. Also since he was master of Isaac that was older then him he felt that none could defeat him, expecially someone younger then him. Probably in the anime the childish part of Camus came out the moment when he could not accepting that one of his pupil, one of the person that he teached, one younger then him, improved that much to overpass him, the master. He can't accept that his role on Hyoga end that way and this melted the ice he had surrounded it heart to overstand the high duties he had since he was a child. I've always thought that the childhood is a main part of te road that a man must do and if it's ruined or broken by something it could have hard recoil on one man's life. For this reason seeing something unacceptable the child inside Camus reacted the way he does.

However this won't make him an horrible person, in fact the contrastant feeling of a true master and his inner child are shown in the very last part when he finally recognize that his acts were out of the contest and that he was acting to selfish and making him finally conscious that he was there not to show who he is but to do his duty as Gold Saint and master. This makes him proud of his pupil since he, as master, as successfully teached him anything in his power and making Hyoga even stronger then him. At least the true feeling of the master came out revealing the pure and sweet heart of Camus.
