Aquarius Camus (…•rÀ‚̃Jƒ~ƒ…, Akueriasu no Kamyu) is a fictional character created by
the mangaka Masami Kurumada in his most famous title, Saint Seiya.
Camus is a Gold Saint (or golden saint) guardian of the 11th temple of Athena, the Aquarius one. But his role in the story was also to be the Cygnus Hyoga, Kraken Isaac and the Crystal Saint (that was also a master of Cygnus Hyoga and Kraken Isaac in the animated serie)
He is the Saint releated to the cold temperatures, the only one that even then make his cosmo explose work on the subatomical and freeze it realizing his most knowed and loved tecniques.
Camus appearence in the various title is a bit different. For exaple in the manga he reveal that he knows that Arles wasn't working for Athena or
under her bless but however he kept working for him to respect is role as Gold Saint, but however he is complacent that Hyoga is fighting for the goddess.
In the anime Camus seem unaware that Arles isn't working for Athena and his relation with the Cygnus saint is a bit more angst and hated since he fight with him
with the belief of be to the right side. However in a secondary moment this won't matter anymore since it's like if Camus forgot is original role to
fight with his pupil and make him reach the 7th sense.
But why use a name like Camus for this Gold Saint? The origin of the name came from the most knowed france philosoph, romancer and dramatist Albert Camus.
Albert Camus is knowed to not refear his idiologies to none of the past schools and for this he is considerated the father of the atheist existentialism.
The fact that the name of this philosoph was choice for Camus could explain the fact that in the moment of the fight with his disciple he forget is role as Athena's saint and became like an atheist that follow only his convinction.
Alber Camus was also know for his research on the human bonds. Albert research for what make the human have bonds, if they really are necessary and if
is really worthwhile leave our life.
Our saint isn't a master of relationship, he is very cold and clearly said to Hyoga to forget his past bonds and became cold. Probably this glacial attitude of the
saint came from the concepts of Albert Camus as well.
The name Camus in french mean also "squashed shape" or "squashed face", Camus face don't show various kind of expression but sure is that when he get mad on Crystal he assume a "squashed face"; however if we want take a bettere refearence to the french meaning of the name there is a proverb that say "dremeurer camus" that literaly mean "to be very disappointed" and we know that in the animation he really was disappointed on Hyoga for various reasons (his bond with he past and the fact that he can't accept that his disciple is stronger then him).
